Description

Enlightenment

As a photographer I need light to create images. Light is directed through a lens into my camera during a timed exposure and the result could be a spectacular sunrise, a colorful landscape, a city skyline, or a small symbol of hope. Every image I share is meant to be a representation of who I am and how I feel about the world I live in. Individual images may be small in the overall scheme of my life but, their compiled significance is grand. Yes, light is necessary, but illumination of a different kind is critical.

Two weekends ago I was at Plimoth Plantation. The Plantation is full of subject matter perfect for BW photos. Wandering the settlement I spent time reflecting upon the courage, the suffering and the faith of the Pilgrims. For most of the day I hoped for something “different” that, for me, would serve as a symbol of the pilgrims struggles and success. The one building that represents the pilgrim community, for me, is the Meeting House. It is here they gathered to govern, pray, and commune. The building is small but, it was built strong enough to shelter the roots that became our present day America. It is here that I captured my favorite image of the day.

Every photographer needs inspiration. Every person should have something, or someone, to believe in. To some this image will appear as nothing more than a rough, wooden window latch. For some, including myself, this image will appear as a small, dramatically lit cross symbolizing hope, strength, and faith. What you see, and feel, is up to you.
